Recently there has been a stay on all Blue Water Navy cases affected by Procopio v Wilkie. What this means is all cases are being temporarily stopped affecting a lot of Veterans whose health is worsening. However, many groups opposed this decision saying it was unfair for Veterans who are literally running out of time. They challenged Secretary Wilkie’s decision, but the Federal Court ruled in favor of Secretary Wilkie. In the end, if Blue Water Navy Veterans have a claim or appeal in the process, nothing will go forward until January 1, 2020, when the law is supposed to take effect.
